Geographically, Deogarh is one of the largest districts in the state. The districts is sorrunded by Sambalpur, Angul and Dhenkanal districts, partially which surround it from three sides. It is situated at a distance of 97 km. to the east of Sambalpur. It became a new district from Ist january 1994. The pradhanapat waterfall on the Padhanpat hill, close by the town is a place of scenic beauty. Tribals constitute a sizable part of its population. Agricultural activities are the primary profession of the majority of the people of this constituency.
