Odisha: Workshop on Rights to Food at Gajapati district

Paralakhemundi: As a first instance being the backward district Workshop on Rights to Food organized at RUdayagiri block premises. Mr. Ranglal Jamuda, Chairman of Odisha State Food Commission presided over the workshop.With him 2 other Members Supra Mallick& Rajashri Mallick attended. Mr. Jamuda reviewed the unleashing target on food security accessed through various programs undertaken by district administration to reach at vulnerable & bqckward community.

Started with distribution of Ration cards to needy households, it is found more than 8000 cards to be disbursed to support Antodaya Anna Yojana (AAY). He assured the administration to feel as sensitivity to reach at unreach & reprieve from accute hunger in district scenario. Block-wise review presented to check & balance the gaps of all 7 blocks of the district. For that need of further household survey to conduct before 31st December 2017. Regarding MGNREGS (Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guranteed Scheme)consolidated payment yet to be made as wage factor in the district due to scarcity of funds. It is found RUdayagiri block is top with 40 days of work done out of accumulated target to 100 days.

Need to keep balance on materials components & wage components where former paid & latter yet pending. On FRA (Forest Rights Act)proper identification of cultivable land to be marked to assure rest of 15000 acres out of which 150 identified.On Odisha Livelihood Mission 1 crore rupees sanctioned to 22 women groups. Being the applicable resources like millet, cashew, maize along with fruits & vegetables cultivation can teal more efforts on production, value addition & market linkages to enhance better livelihood of poverty sections.

On health issues need of deworming & regular immunization to be quantified for infants & mothers to assess normal health further to block malnutrition. Awareness campaign for dropouts & those college going students of below 19 years to be covered by supplying Vitamin A & Calcium tablets. More touch with ante-natal & lactating mothers through counselling can bring climate change. For which integrity between ICDS & health is imminent. On MDM (Mid-day meal)out of 1347 schools including 7 Model schools initiative to be monitored by cross-checking with joint efforts by education department & school committees. Need to cover 10000 Aadhar linkage to assure quality enrollment of students. Further Swach Bharat campaign need to cover all schools & Anganwadi centres with toilets & drinking water supply.

A mission program to be guaranteed by convergence with RWSS (Rural Water Supply& Sanitation)department. Among others Mr. Achyut Das, Director of Agragamee facilitated various activities by those NGOs in the workshop. Among those NGOs SWWS, JKP, ISARA, CCD, Surakhya, IWD, Mahila Vikash, EU (Agragamee)& CRS shared their interventions on livelihood factors with tribals & other backward communities. Collector Mr. SMSamal whole heartedly supported with NGOs to fulfill the target on convergence. MLA Mohana Basanti Mallick, block Chairperson of RUdayagiri spoke on the occasion. A diehard initiative done by Block Development Officer RUdayagiri & his team to make success the workshop highly accoladed.
