Odisha: Two died and two critical in consuming mango kernel at Nabarangpur

Report by Basanta Rath; Nabarangpur: At least two persons died and two others fell critically after consuming mango kernel at Mainapadar village under Jharigaon block of Nabarangpur district here on Tuesday.

The deceased have been identified as Sudhamani Santa and Namita Shanta. While the former was the wife of Arjuna Santa, the later was his younger sister.

According to reports the family members of Arjuna consumed mango kernel along with millet, following which four of them complained of severe loose motion and vomiting. Despite suffering from nausea and diarrhoea, they stayed back at home. It was only after a 15-year old-girl was in critical condition they rushed to Jharigam CHC for
treatment around 3 AM, where Namita was declared dead. All three has similar symptoms admitted at Jharigaon hospital, later referred them to district headquarters hospital,(DHH) Nabarangpur.

However, one of them Sudhamani Santa, wife of Arjuna died on the way to the hospital,” Nabarangpur Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) Sivarani Mishra said.

The two patients Prakash Santa, and Pramila Santa, were admitted at the district headquarters hospital where they are under treatment, their conditions are critical and after preliminary treatment referred to Saheed Laxman Nayak Medical College, Said Dr.Mishra. “Meanwhile a special team of doctors has reached the Mainapadar village to take stock of the situation, Mishra said.
