Odisha submitted proposal of Rs 604.21 crore to Centre for permanent solution to drought situation

Bhubaneswar: The State Government has submitted a proposal of Rs 604.21 crore to the Union Government for permanent solution to the drought situation in Odisha ahead of a review meeting to be held by Union Agriculture Minister.

Agriculture Minister Damodar Rout informed this in the Assembly in response to a question of BJD MLA Ranendra Pratap Swain on Wednesday.

The State Government has sought a total of Rs 277.50 crore for creation of irrigation infrastructure, which includes Rs 77.50 crore for 500 community deep tube-wells, 500 deep tube-wells to be run by solar power and 500 community lift irrigation points. Similarly, Rs 529 crore has been sought for repair and renovation of 529 community lift irrigation points and Rs 320 crore for construction of 6,000 deep tube-wells and 400 community LI points resolve irrigation problems in drought hit areas permanently. The proposal was sent on November 24, 2017, the Minister said.
