Odisha State Open University Gets UGC Recognition for UG and PG Programmes

• UGC approves 12 Under Graduate programmes and 14 Post Graduation programmes of OSOU for 2018-2023

• Course delivery will be both in Odia and in English

Sambalpur: Odisha State Open University (OSOU), one among the youngest open universities in India, has received University Grants Commission (UGC) recognition to offer Post Graduate (PG) and Under Graduate (UG) programmes from academic session 2018-19. The Distance Education Bureau of UGC has granted permission to OSOU to offer 26 Courses through the Open and Distance Learning Mode from the 2018-2019 to 2022-2023 academic year.

“This is a historic moment for OSOU and students of Odisha. We received approval for almost all the courses we applied. Students from any part of Odisha can now complete Bachelors or Master Degree at their convenience through our technology enabled distance learning programmes,” said Prof (Dr.) Srikant Mohapatra, Vice-Chancellor of the University.

The University will run the approved programmers through its ___ study centres located at the University campuses and Autonomous Colleges across Odisha. “One can be assured about the quality of teaching,” added Prof. Mohapatra. Students will be allowed to write in either English or Odia language in the Examinations and the teaching method to be followed will be bilingual.

Under graduate Programmes approved to be offered by OSOU are Bachelor of Arts (BA) Programme in English, Hindi, History, Journalism, Political Science, Sociology, Economics, Sanskrit; Bachelor of Commerce (Hons), BBA, BSc in Livelihoods And Sustainable Development. Similarly, the University has been granted permission to run Master degree programmes in Economic, English, Hindi, History, Journalism, Sanskrit, Odia, Political Science, Public Administration, Public Policy, Rural Development, Sociology, Commerce (M.Com) and Cyber Security (MSc).OSOU, headquartered in Sambalpur, Odisha, is established by an Act of the Odisha State Legislature in 2015. The University has jurisdiction over the entire State of Odisha. Presently the University offers certificate, diploma and post graduate diploma programmes in 42 Areas.

There are about 10000 students from different parts of Odisha presently studying in the University and with recognition of the new programmes, the number is expected to rise significantly.As per the UGC guideline all the admission process for UG and PG shall be completed before 1st October 2018. Accordingly, ‘OSOU will publish the advertisement notification soon’, informed Dr. Mohapatra.
