Odisha ruling BJD alleges Centre, BJP trying deliberately to get the Bijepur by-election delayed

Bhubaneswar: Labour and Employees State Insurance Minister Sushant Singh on Sunday alleged that the Central Government and the BJP are trying deliberately to get the Bijepur by-election delayed.

Singh told reporters here that there is a feeling among the people that the Union Government is pressuring the Election Commission of India (ECI) to delay the election.

Singh said the BJP is also putting pressure on the ECI because it fears that it would lose the by-poll. So, the BJP has until now refrained from announcing its candidate’s name. However, whenever the by-election is held, the ruling BJD is going to emerge victorious, he asserted.

In his reaction to Singh’s allegation, BJP chief spokesperson Sajjan Sharma said it is ridiculous. The day the by-poll date is announced, the BJP would announce its candidate’s name. It is the BJD which is losing ground in Bijepur. So, it is making such baseless allegations.
