Odisha: Residents petition closure of a poultry firm on village outskirts in Jagatsinghpur

Report by Kahnu Nanda; Jagatsinghpur: Hundreds of villagers from Goda Grama Panchayat under Erasama block have petitioned in writing to district collector, superintendent of police, pollution control board and few official authorities on Thursday demanding immediate closure of a poultry firm operating on the village outskirts.
The petition has described that one Kalu Charan Pradhan and his family members are running a poultry farm business on the village outskirts creating air pollution and nuisance to the general public , the incumbent poultry farm owner has not obtained any valid license from government authority for running the poultry farm, the villager’s complaint alleged.
Due to worst type of foul smell coming out of the poultry farm public lives have been put in great discomfort in the area, a local temple and school including residential area are going to polluted due to spreading of foul smell emitting from the poultry farm leading local disturbance and landscape degradation pushing local negative amenities in the surroundings of poultry farm, petition revealed.
Poultry farm bears source of odor and attracts flies, rodents and other pests that usually creates local nuisances and carry diseases which adversely affecting the life of people living in the vicinity, improper disposal of poultry carcasses are contributing water pollution and environmental degradation but the farm owner does not care the public grievances regularly , so we villagers seeking district administration intervention to act lawful action against the farm owner, the petition mentioned.
Meanwhile acting on the villager’s allegation over poultry farm nuisance district collector Yamini Sarangi has asked environment department furnishing a report after conducting a field study, informed Saroj Hati, Surendra Natha Sahoo who met collector during submission of villagers petition.
