Odisha received 16.4 per cent excess rainfall

Bhubaneswar: There is no more rain deficit in the State as 14 of the 30 districts of Odisha have received 19 per cent more than normal rainfall and 15 others received normal rainfall.

However, Sundargarh is the only district that registered 20.9 per cent less rainfall by July 24. Special Relief Commissioner Bishnupada Sethi said that average rainfall of the State recorded on 24 July 2018 for the last 24 hours was 1.6 MM. While 22 districts received a little rainfall, Jajpur recorded the highest 7.2 MM. Seven districts, Boudh, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Khordha, Nayagarh, Nuapada and Puri didn’t receive any rainfall.

With this, the average rainfall for the month of July (upto 24th) comes to a surplus of 50.8 per cent of the long term average rainfall. Similarly, the cumulative average rainfall of the State from 1 June till 24 July of 2018 registers a surplus of to 16.4 per cent over the long term average rainfall.

Considering the block-wise rainfall, 137 blocks have received surplus rainfall of more than 19 per cent during the period from June 1, 2018 till July 24 2018 whereas 134 more blocks have received normal rainfall (+19% to -19%).

Average rainfall of 30 blocks is deficit between 19 per cent and 39 per cent and that of 13 blocks has remained severe deficit (-39% to -59%).
