Odisha Police issues summon notice to Baijayant Panda for allegedly flying helicopter over Chilka

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Police issues summon notice to former MP Baijayant Panda for allegedly flying helicopter over Chilka. This was informed by the Puri SP Sarthak Sarangi.

He said chopper fly over Puri & Konark Temples will be brought under the purview of investigation. SP Sarangi said notice has been sent to former MP Baijayant Panda and 2 others who were in the chopper. “I had directed IMFA official to appear before me and present their sides today, however they did not turn-up. Investigating officials have gone to IMFA office for a probe,” says Puri SP Sarthak Sarangi .

The Marine police have issued the summon notice to Panda, asking him to depose before it on Wednesday. The police will grill him to elicit more information into the controversial issue.

On the other hand, the police today summoned some employees of IMFA and questioned them over the illegal flying of the chopper. The police officials questioned the IMFA employees that in which circumstances the chopper entered the bird sanctuary and whether they had any permission for flying the chopper in the eco-sensitive zone.

The police are also probing as to how Panda, who does not have a commercial license, had flown over the area with two passengers.

The preliminary inquiry reveals that Panda along with his two journalist friends from Delhi flew over the no-flying zone of Chilika. Panda flew the chopper low over the sanctuary and entered into it.

Meanwhile, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is all set to probe into the allegations of flying of the helicopter over the eco-sensitive Zone of Chilika Lake.
