Odisha Police book school teacher under POCSO for sexual harrasement

Report by Deba Prasad Dash; Malkangiri: FINDING all the allegations of sexual abuse & harassment made by a minor girl of the +2 science stream of Govindpalli based Scheduled Caste & Scheduled Tribe Department run Higher Secondary School against three local guys false, the Mathili police on Monday arrested the school Oriya Lecturer Ajya Kumar Sutar (41), who was the only eyewitness in the case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012.

Speaking to OdishaDiary, the Young Orissa Police Service (OPS) Deputy Superintendent of Police (Under Training) Manas Ranjan Barik who was investigating officer of the case said contrary to the girl’s claim no evidence was established against any of the three guys during investigation. We have arrived at a logical conclusion after an impartial probe while looking into all aspects of the case, he said.

The school Oriya Lecturer Ajya Kumar Sutar was found guilty under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act for the sexual abuse & harassment of the minor girl after the end of the investigation, Barik said adding Sutar has been produced in a Malkangri court on Monday .

While tracking the calls, we came to know during investigation that Sutar had made at last 2143 calls to the girl from his two mobile numbers during the last three months, Barik revealed adding the mobile phones of the lecturer has been sent to forensic laboratory in Bhubaneswar to retrieve the deleted numbers.The offence is considered graver as it is committed by a staff of the educational institution, police said.

The girl was allegedly sexually abused and harassed by three known local guys in the school kitchen room on November 14. Later, she had lodged a FIR with Mathili police demanding action against the culprits. In her complaint, she was also stated that school Oriya Lecturer Ajya Kumar Sutar was also subjected to misbehavior by the guys while protesting the incident.
The victim’s statement was recorded under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, before a magistrate in Malkangiri.

However, police smelled something wrong with the allegation made by the girl when her relatives told the media few days after that they are getting threatening from school Oriya Lecturer Ajya Kumar Sutar who is the lone witness in the incident to withdraw the case. This, apart, school Principal Cahitanya Nali was pointed his finger towards the lecturer for the incident while submitting his recommendation and book order in DWO office . The relatives of the local guys against whom allegations were made by the girl were also urged for an impartial probe into the case saying their kin’s were either outside or in work place when the incident took place.

Mean while, police has reportedly released Mahendra Panigrahi and Kuna Achary who were detained for interrogation in connection with the case after finding no evidence against them.
