Odisha police arrested four Maoist cadres from Elkanur forest in Malkangiri

Malkangiri: The police arrested four Maoist cadres from Elkanur forest of the district on Sunday while carrying out combing operations. It is suspected these four are associates of the Red rebels, who killed a tribal villager of Kurub village of Kalimela block on October 7.

All four arrestees are being grilled in connection with the murder of a local tribal Damburu Nayak, who was killed by a group of around 20 armed ultras in Kurub village after being dubbed as a Maoist informer.

It may be recalled that Nayak’s body showed signs of torture when it was recovered from the nearby forest area on the village outskirts on October 7 and the police are questioning the arrested Maoists about the identity and whereabouts of the other accused in the crime.

However, the police refuse to accept the rebels claim that Nayak was a police informer. Senior police officials said the Maoists are killing innocent villagers after dubbing them as police informers to create a fear psychosis among the locals.
