Odisha PCC Chief Prasad Harichandan alleged BJD, BJP for hoodwinking people over Mahanadi water dispute

Bhubaneswar: Pradesh Congress Committee president Prasad Harichandan on Sunday alleged that the BJD Government here and the BJP-led NDA Government at the Centre are hoodwinking the people over the Mahanadi water dispute between Odisha and Chhattisgarh.

“Union Water Resources Minister Nitin Gadkari said the Union Government is working for formation of a unitary tribunal to resolve inter-State river issues. He said this only to hoodwink people as required rules and guidelines have not been enacted yet,” Harichandandan alleged and wanted to know why the Prime Minister has not yet intervened into the matter and asked the Chhattisgarh Government to stop construction of barrages.

Harichandan criticised the State Government and the BJD saying why they have remained silent on the Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh’s contention that Mahanadi is not an issue at all.

He too raised a question as to why the Union Government has not made public the report of the Expert Committee headed by Dr Amarjit Singh vis-à-vis the Mahanadi issue.

He demanded that the Union Government prepare a water measurement chart showing water needed by both the States for various purposes during non-monsoon season, people of Odisha to be affected due to barrages constructed upstream Mahanadi by Chhattisgarh, etc.
