Odisha: No helmet, No petrol orders Jagatsinghpur SP

Report by Kahnu Nanda; Jagatsinghpur: Expressing strong displeasure over two wheeler drivers not wearing helmets when travelling the Jagatsinghpur superintendent of police [SP] Jaya Narayan Pankaj has launched a road safety drive No helmet No Petrol rule forbidding petrol pumps from selling fuel to motorcyclists without having protective headgear.
Briefing media persons at district headquarters SP Pankaj said no petrol pumps under the jurisdiction of Jagatsinghpur district shall hence forth sell petrol to any such two wheeler rider comes to the petrol pump without helmet. If any petrol pump does not follow this direction they will punished under section 188 Indian Penal Code [IPC] , SP said.
After held meeting with district petrol pump owners on Friday SP told scribes that state transport department has launched a state wide safe driving campaign to reduce the number of road accidents. Acting on the drive a mass campaigning would be launched and public would be educated about the necessity of head gear while driving.
Meanwhile SP warned there will be surprise checks on petrol pumps to see whether they are selling oil to bikers without helmet , if any pump is found flouting the order we will take legal steps against the pump owners and others concerned.
On the other hand district petrol pump owner’s association president Antrayami Patnaik informed we respect SP’s order but it will take time for the people to immediately follow the rule.
