Report by Badal Taha; Rayagada: Local communities just wait to celebrate Dasahara puja with a slew of cultural programmes at JK Pur. Since last forty two years JK Paper Mills Ltd(JKPM) is organizing this much hankered festival with pomp and ceremony. Not only the locals of Rayagada district but also people from neighbouring districts like Koraput, Gajapati, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, etc and neighbouring states like Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh eagerly wait and enjoy this grand festival. There is fun for each category of the get-goers like old & young, men & women, children & youth. The shops selling household items, food, insurance, machines meet the needs of the people coming to the mela including several fun games.

This year also the puja coupled with cultural programmes will be solemnized for ten days from 26th September to 5th October. Cultural programme starting on 29th with Odia Opera “Emiti Bhul Kebe Hebani” by Jagannath Natya Kala Parishad of Jaykay Pur, different types of folk dance, Odissi dance, Goti pua dance from Puri & Jazz band from Bhubaneswar, modern dance by Hot Steppers from Vizag & Boogie-Woogie by local artists , etc will enrich the cultural extravaganza. The main attraction of the programme will be Rojalin Sahu and Tilak Chakraborty of Indian Idol fame. On 30th, fifty four feet tall Ravan will be cremated at old aerodrome field of JKPM.

A high level committee headed by it s President Sri P K Suri, Executive Vice-President(Works) of JKPM will be assisted by Sri Shantanu Kumar Mahapatra, Sri Narendra Jain & Sri Santosh Kumar Kotta as its Secretary, Joint-Secretary & Treasurer respectively. An advisory body comprising of senior staff members of JKPM namely Sri Vijay Mantry, Sri Bharat Agrawal, Sri S.Durga, Sri A.Tirupathi Rao, Sri Chitta Ranjan Mohanty, Sri G.V.Ramana, Sri Suba Kurshika & Sri Biji Sankar Rao has been constituted to further assist the committee.

Sri Shantanu Kumar Mahapatra, Secretary of the Puja Committee, has appealed to the people of the area through a press release to join this extravaganza with their family and friends.
