Report by Nishapati Nayak, Koraput: A lady maoist Kantamani Hareka alias Padma was killed in an encounter with police at Dhayagurah forest area on the road between Koraput and Rayagada in the early hours of Wednesday , Charan Singh Meena , SP, Koraput said in a press meet today .
According to Mr.Meena on receipt of reliable information regarding presence of armed maoists of Koraput division near Dhayagurah forest area to cause destruction of Koraput-Rayagada highway and blast to kill police personnel on the road , an anti maoist operation was launched at about 5.45 am with a team of SOG &DVF to search and apprehend the above maoists who were wanted in large number of criminal cases including murders , extortionate , arsons , destruction of public property etc .While the team was searching in the forest , a group of armed maoists started indiscriminate firing from sophisticated weapons and the police team had to open fire in self defence , he added .
The exchange of fire lasted for 30 minutes and Kantamani Hareka , a lady maoist who was later identified to be from Kambivelli village under Peda Borgi panchayat of Narayanpatna block in Koraput district was killed .The maoist group has been prima facie identified as Nandapur A/C and 3rd CRC of Koraput Division along with some unidentified cadres .
One civilian lady Male Miniaka of Tudu Leleri was found injured near the site of exchange of fire and was immediately taken to the hospital and was out of danger , Mr.charan singh Meena (S.P) said .
While the group had escaped taking the advantage of thick forest , police recovered many things from the spot .It includes two live IED , SBML gun , Bharat Gun , detonator , walkie talkie and good number of maoist literature and books .
