Odisha: Jagatsinghpur registers 65% voting till dusk, Model, Pink and PWDs booths attract voters 

Report by Kahnu Nanda; Jagatsinghpur : The four assembly segments and one Lok Sabha seat spreading Jagatsinghpur district that went on polls, a voting turnout was witnessed about 65% till dusk on Monday, said collector cum district election officer G Poonam Tapas Kumar but the figure showing voting numbers is not tentative, may be increased later, Kumar added.

Despite EVM glitches delay polling at several booths, besides few stray incidents the simultaneous polls passed off peaceful in Jagatsinghpur district on Monday, collector informed.

The district administration designed model booths, pink booths and PWDs booths were witnessed huge voting turn out and matter of discussion among voters.

As many as 60 model booths were erected in four assembly constituencies each 15 numbers. These booths aim to make voting comfortable with available of 15 Assured Minimum Facilities [AMF] as provision of ramp, drinking water, adequate furniture, medical kits, toilets, shade, volunteers, crèche for children, help desk, transport management and queue management and many facilities. This correspondent was visited a model booth in Singarpur school where he found no deficiency of the AMFs there, voters were casting votes comfortable.

However two pink booths number 71 and 72 were made in side S K Academy School premises here where all six pooling personnel were women employees. The booths were decorated with balloon gates, message gates, waiting sheds available of all AMFs, presiding officer of the booth Mamata Manjari Mohanty informed that the booth comprises 916 voters as on 5 pm we have received above 60 % voting turn out and electioneering process was underway without any glitches, she added.

Moreover one PWD booth was erected in Markandapur U P School premises under Jagatsinghpur assembly segment. The booth was designed managing by pooling personnel with affecting disability, all six polling men were PWDs. Two long queues one for male and others for female noticed outside the booth.

Adolescent girls were greeting voters giving rose, red carpets were laid to welcome the voters with water bottles, buttermilk and chocolates, the booth was seen an atmosphere of festive look, all the arrangements were made in collaboration with Jagatsinghpur municipality staff.

According to the booth presiding Officer Arabinda Banarjee informed that we have received about 64 % voting out of 1424 voters enlisted in the booth, all my disabled polling personnel are properly handling the voting, he added.

One Dilip Kumar Behera who gave his vote in PWDs managed booth informed that no problem he received while casting votes, it sent a message that our disabled brothers and sisters are capable conducting a pooling booth, he added.

Replying success of model booths, PWDs booth and women managed pink booths in elections in district, collector G Poonam Tapas Kumar remarked that we just implemented the instruction of Election Commission of India holding these booths, the accolades go to our pooling personnel and voters those gave votes there, collector said.
