Odisha: Illegal transfer of land in Harichanpur tehsil, Victim awaits justice

Report by Malaya Mohapatra; Keonjhar: When Gangadhar and Purendra went to the Revenue Inspectors office in harichandanpur to deposit the land rent, they were surprised to know that their ancestral land was already transferred in the name of Bimala Mahanta, someone they never knew. It was in march 2018, that they immediately rushed to the Harichandanpur tehsil office and lodged a complaint with the Tehsildar.

According to official sources, the 107 decimals of land in Khata 44 was in the name of Late Gobardhan Mahanta, son of Chaitanya Mahanta of village Raidiha, Harichandanpur RI circle. Gobardhan has two sons Mahendra and Krushna. Gangadhar Son of Mahendra and Purendra son of Krushna were cultivating the land by succession. In meantime Bimala Mahanta of village Bhagamunda applied for transfer of the land in Khata 44 claiming to be only legal heir of Late Gobordhan Mahanta.

But Bimal happens to be the daughter in law of another late Gobordhan Mahanta son of Rupa Mahanta of village Bhagamunda. With the help of revenue officials she managed to get a legal heir certificate of Late Gobordhan Mahanta of village Raidiha and got his property transferred in her name. We are victim of a planned conspiracy, otherwise how could a stranger transfer our ancestral property in her name without proper field verification, alleged Gangadhar Mahanta, true legal heir. We will surely take action against the culprits after an enquiry, Shanti Sudha Patra, Tehsildar Harichandanpur says after four months of receiving the complain.
