Odisha HC rejects appeal to cancel Zilla Parishad president elections in Nuapada

Bhubaneswar: Odisha High Court rejects appeal to cancel Zilla Parishad president elections in Nuapada.
Earlier High Court has issued a stay order on the Zilla Parishad president elections in Malkangiri and Nuapada districts. The high court order came in response to the petitions filed by aspiring candidates for ZP president post in both the districts.
Giriraj Majhi, an elected zilla parishad member in Nuapada district, had moved high court alleging that election was not conducted in one of the 14 zones in the district. He had prayed that as elections were not held in Komna zone in Nuapada district it would not be proper to hold ZP president election in the district, as the candidate elected from Komna will not get the opportunity to contest the president election. It would be denial of natural justice to the candidate. Hence, he had prayed court to stay the ZP president election in the district.
