Odisha Govt to start paddy procurement from on May 1 and continue till June 30

Bhubaneswar: The paddy procurement for the Rabi season would commence on May 1 and continue till June 30. This was decided in a meeting of the State Level Paddy Procurement Committee presided over by Chief Secretary AP Padhi here on Thursday.

Civil supplies and Consumers Welfare Secretary Bir Bikram Yadav said that so far about 1.05 lakh farmers have been registered for selling the paddy and the number may go up to 1.50 lakh. About 6,000 are sharecroppers of the farmers who have registered, he added.

Yadav further informed that the paddy would be procured through the

Primary Agricultural Cooperative Societies (PACS) and all transactions in this regard would be made on-line. Rs 1,500 would be given as MSP per quintal of paddy and there are about 419 PACS which have been registered for the Rabi procurement, Yadav said.
