Odisha Govt slashes pension age limit for artistes by 10 years

Bhubaneswar: Landmark step towards ensuring welfare of artists in the state as Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announced pension of ₹1200 per month for 50,000 artists under Mukhyamantri Kalakar Sahayata Yojana. Highlights from the announcement:

• Earlier covering 4,000 artists, the new scheme will cover 50,000 artists across the state
• Minimum age criteria reduced to 50 years for male artists and 40 years for female.
• Selection of beneficiaries and sanction of pension to be made by district administration for easy processing and coverage of artists

Chief Minister Shri Patnaik stated that the initiative will honour the commitment and dedication of thousands of artists in the state who have made Odisha proud. He also directed time-bound implementation of the decisions taken at Odisha Cabinet meeting in Puri.
Odisha’s Tourism and Culture Minister, Ashok Chandra Panda informed that presently nearly 4,000 artists are getting pension of Rs 1,200 per month and with the initiative 50,000 artistes will be covered in the State.
