Odisha Govt to procure 55 lakh metric tons of paddy from the farmers in Kharif 2018-19

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Govt sets target to procure 55 lakh metric tons of paddy from the farmers in Kharif 2018-19. State cabinet, chaired by CM  Naveen Patnaik, sets target to procure 55 million tonnes of paddy in kharif marketing season 2018-19, says Chief secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi.

Under the policy, the state government has set a target to procure 55 lakh metric tonne of paddy (37 lakh metric tonne of rice) from the farmers in the Kharif season.

The farmers will receive the payment within three days of the sale of paddy. The money will be directly transferred to their bank accounts within 24 to 72 hours of the procurement.

The paddy will be procured as per the MSP fixed by the central government (Rs 1750 per quintal for common variety and Rs 1770 per quintal for Grade A variety). The Kharif crop will be procured between November 2018 and April 2019 and Rabi crop from May to June 2019.

The Cabinet also approved Rs 1,250 crore for the government’s flagship Ama Gaon Ama Bikash scheme.

Moreover, the Odisha Agriculture and Food Production Service (Methods of Recruitment and Conditions of Service) Rules-2018 also received the Cabinet’s nod today.
