Odisha Govt to hold weekly ‘Krushak Samparka Shibira’ at Gram Panchayat , Organic Farming Policy within 2 months

Bhubaneswar: At Odisha Agri-Cabinet, Chief Minister Shri Naveen Patnaik directed to hold weekly ‘Krushak Samparka Shibira’ at Gram Panchayat headquarters from 15 August. It will be organized by held by Panchayat level agriculture officers and extension workers of allied sectors to interact with farmers and strengthen the extension mechanism. Other key decisions:
• ‘Krushi Paramarsha’ mobile advisory services to provide necessary information to farmers
• Pulses & oilseeds to be covered under Minimum Support Price; all out efforts to ensure implementation in next procurement season
• Organic Farming Policy within two months to provide support for growth of organic sector and marketing of organic products
• 65,000 hectares of additional irrigation potential to be created through mega lift irrigation projects
Chief Minister Shri Patnaik stated during the meeting that the State has witnessed all-time record production of 98.74 lakh MT rice in 2016-17. From a rice importing state, Odisha has now become the 3rd largest contributor to the public distribution system. In 2000-01, Odisha’s rice productivity was less than 2/3 of the national average. Now, it has surpassed the national average.
Fish production in the state has increased from 2.59 lakh MT in 2000 to 5.21 lakh MT in 2015-16 and now, 6.08 lakh MT in 2016-17.
