Odisha Govt. approves Rs. 5.5 cr box cell storm water drain construction near Acharya Vihar

Bhubaneswar: In a significant development which can help contain the recurring water logging issue in Acharya Vihar area in the city, the state government today approved construction of box cell storm water drain connecting Drainage Channel no. 4, near Acharya Vihar, at a cost of Rs. 5.5 crores.
In a letter issued today by H&UD Dept., BMC Commissioner has been intimated about the approval of the tender proposal for the work, submitted by the civic body on 11th July.
After construction of this box cell storm water drain, rain water will get discharged smoothly in the Acharya Vihar area. The Drainage Channel Number 4 has created havoc in the past for waterlogging in the above area.
It can be mentioned here that earlier Cuttack Drainage Division of Water Resources Department has started the work of the box drain for a 570 metre stretch with a cost of over Rs 10 crore. However, after completing a portion, the work was later transferred to BMC’s Drainage Division. The BMC Division will now complete the rest 377 metre work of the box drain.
The Water Resources Department started the work of the box drain in 2014 following a large-scale eviction as the box drain was planned as a diversion from the NH-16 end towards the Regional Science Centre end behind the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam area.
