Odisha Governor inaugurates Golden Jubilee Celebration of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India

Bhubaneswar: Businesses need an ethical corporate culture, including the ability to look beyond short-term gains for the long-term interests of stakeholders. It is strongly felt that companies must have three things- openness, integrity and accountability. These values will help to drive companies forward, said Governor Dr. S.C. Jamir.
Inaugurating Golden Jubilee Celebration of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India at Bhubaneswar Governor said the importance of dedicated professional services is undeniable in realization of the true essence of government initiatives in promoting empowered governance on an expanded realm of welfare platforms for the larger good of the people. Good governance must be looked at the holistic level for inclusive development of the country aligning the global parameters.
The challenge for Company Secretaries in this millennium is to rise and meet the increasing expectations of their evolving role. As key corporate members they have to respond efficiently and holistically to all the challenges and opportunities. Looking ahead, I am sure the Institute will continue to develop and fine-tune its role as a statutory regulator in response to changing conditions in the profession and in the global economy, Governor added.
The scope of being Company Secretary is increasing year by year due to factors like expansion of corporate sector within and beyond the borders, emergence of new corporate entities, e-Governance, new emphasis on corporate governance has further compelled the companies to develop systematic and procedural aspects to ensure statutory compliance and at the same time establish extended governance practices thereby creating a high demand for Company Secretaries, Governor observed.
Dr. Omkar Nath Mohanty, former Vice Chancellor, BPUT, Dillip Satapathy, Resident Editor, Business Standard, Priyadarshi Nayak, Chairman, Bhubaneswar Chapter, R.K. Kar, Secretary, Devika Panda, Member among others spoke on the occasion.
