Bhubaneswar: When the Internet-based deadly games are threatening the entire world and Odisha has reportedly encountered some incidents, recently, arising out of such a dangerous game, largely confined to Smart phone using young students, experts invited by the Socially Smart Project, while speaking to young students of Biju Patnaik Institute of IT and Management (BIITM) today had an informative session to make them aware and also not to panic by any false claims by any hacker groups.
Students of BIITM during the afternoon today got an inspiring session to hear about cyber crime and also smart advice as what they should do and remember when they are using Internet.
Retired Vigilance SP Suryamani Tripathy while speaking on the occasion said “the youth today needs to be shown the right path, streamline their latent energy as they are losing track of their vision in the name of thrill and challenge. They are getting into unnecessary problems as many are admitting that they are playing such games as they are depressed.’’
The retired cop spoke about various categories of cyber crimes in India as it is the 5th nation in terms of cyber crime in the world with 13 lakh cases registered in the country. Currently Maharashtra is registering the highest number of cyber crime cases in India. While the cases include hacking, data theft and spreading of viruses, we often come across e-mail spoofing and creation of fake profiles to fool other Internet users. The Odisha Government is planning to open three cyber crime police stations across the state and it shows how the crime is increasingly multiplying in this region.
Dr Saraju Prasad, Associate Professor of BIITM said in details about various types of cyber crime. However, he advised students not to share any personal information on the Internet or in any chartroom as many terrorist groups are just looking for such opportunities and to encash on and use those identities for their crimes against humanity. Prasad, specifically on playing Internet based games with dangerous “challenges’’, said “if a student is stressed or depressed then he/she can talk to the teacher and never suffer in silence. In case of harassment also the institute’s counsellors or dean student welfare should be communicated immediately.’’
Earlier on the day, students of Lord Jagannath Misson Nursing College, were given a nice participatory session on “Reproductive health and substance abuse – Adolescent lifestyle.’’ In this works shop topics like maintenance of reproductive health, menstrual hygiene, nutrition and control of diseases relating to sexual practice, sexually transmitted diseases and effects of substance abuse.
In the recent past while a programme was organised at Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences of SOA University to teach them Shoaling martial art for self defence, a poster making competition was organised at School of Law, KIIT University and an aerobics session was organised at the School of Law in association with the NSS Wing of KIIT University. All these events are being organised in the educational institutions on the theme “Safe City Safe Campus and Healthy Style Healthy Life.’’
Tomorrow there will be a workshop on “Safe City Safe Campus’’ at Kamala Nehru Women’s College and day after tomorrow a two-day spiritual session and yoga classes will start at School of Electrical Engineering, KIIT University.
It can be mentioned here that the Socially Smart Project is a joint initiative of the Bhubaneswar Smart City Limited and UNFPA to make the youth, adolescent girls and women in BTCD area, socially smart and later the programme will be replicated across the city.
