Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Shri Naveen Patnaik announced decision to establish Handloom and Handicraft Development Council for development and welfare of artisans of Odisha.
Chief Minister Shri Naveen Patnaik wrote to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi seeking GST exemption for handloom and handicraft products in interest of Odisha artisans and weaver families. Odisha had opposed the taxation at GST Council but GST has since been levied on handloom fabric and apparels at 5% & 12% and handicrafts at 12-18% depending upon the type of handicraft.
A delegation of Odisha Shilpi Mahasangha met Chief Minister Shri Patnaik and submitted a memorandum containing signatures of 50,000 artisans and weavers for GST exemption.
