Bhubaneswar: Odisha DGP places Inspector-in-Charge of Nimapara Police Station Mrutyunjay Swain under suspension with immediate effect for assaulting 75-year-old woman & her daughter-in-law. Accused IIC Mrutyunjay Swain placed under suspension for his gross misconduct in assaulting the elderly woman and her daughter-in-law .
A 74-year-old woman has alleged that Nimapara police station IIC Mrutyunjaya Swain thrashed her with a lathi at the police station. Basanti Palata of Dalei Sahi in the Dhirapur area has lodged a complaint in this regard with Puri Superintendent of Police. As per the allegation, the Nimapara PS IIC had on May 7 summoned her to appear at the police station in connection with an FIR filed by her daughter-in-law alleging torture by her in-laws.
The IIC detained Basanti and her son at the police station till 11 pm and allegedly beat her with a lathi, resulting in injuries on her leg. The incident was recorded by an onlooker and the video later went viral on social media after getting posted.
On the other hand, the police official has refuted the allegations, saying that he is ready to face any kind of investigation in the matter.
