Odisha Community Japan Tokyo (OCJT) celebrates Ratha Yatra in Tokyo

Tokyo : Odisha Community Japan Tokyo (OCJT) celebrates Ratha Yatra in Tokyo. The greatness of the Rath Yatra however does not come from its grand scale but from its ability to unite people in its festivity… a spirit that OCJT aspires to achieve in everything we do.

Date – 25 June 2017, Sunday
Venue – Funabori Park, Tokyo, Japan

2 things made this year’s event special …

• First, we were able bring together over 300 to 350 fellow Indians and Japanese people, including high level dignitaries from the Indian Embassy, corporate sectors and other Indian communities

• Second, we celebrated on the same day of the Puri Ratha Yatra and it is planet’s one of the earliest/first chariot pulling

The Rath was assembled and decorated by OCJT volunteers. There were 10 different types of sweets for prasada were prepared.

 

Puja
The deities were beautifully dressed as per Jagannath tradition and decorated with flowers. Puja was performed by Mr. Debadatta Mishra, a member of OCJT and after the Pahandi the deities were brought to the Rath amidst chanting of “Jai Jagannath” and “Hare Rama Hare Krishna” from gathered devotees and local residents

Chhera pahanra was conducted by Mr. Avnish Sharma – Minister-Consular Indian Embassy, Tokyo, Japan.

Chariot Pulling – The chariot was pulled in the park for 30 minutes.
The chariot pulling was followed by the Prasad distribution.

Before the end of the celebration, a puja was performed by the devotees and the crowed slowly started leaving the venue with joy in their heart.

OCJT is a community of like-minded Odias living and working in Tokyo and it’s greater areas.

It is a secular, non-political, non-profit and voluntary organization.

It is registered as a cultural organization in the Koto ward of Tokyo.

Promoting the rich culture of Odisha in Japan and knowledge exchange between Odisha and Japan are OCJT’s primary focus. (Odisha is a state on the east coast of India and has a rich history spanning over 5,000 years)

Our members, many long term residents of Japan, well versed in Japanese language and customs, actively organize cultural events and projects throughout the year inviting people from all walks of life from both countries.
