Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik strongly hit out at BJP for levelling “malicious and fabricated” charges of election expenses

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Sunday strongly hit out at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for levelling “malicious and fabricated” charges of election expenses bungling against him

Speaking to reporters here on his return from New Delhi, he said he is likely to take legal course of action over the allegations. Replying to a question he said there might be a conspiracy behind making such allegations.
Patnaik was referring to the BJP’s demand that he make public the Biju Janata Dal’s (BJD) fund transactions and the BJP’s description of the allegations as “Naveen Hawala Ghotala”.
Patnaik ridiculed the BJP for its ignominious defeat in its State president Basant Panda’s home district Nuapada in the panchayat elections. The saffron party failed to win a single Zilla Parishad seat in Panda’s own Assembly constituency and has finished a poor third in the recent belated poll to a ZP seat in this area, Patnaik pointed out.
On the other hand, the BJP alleged that instead of replying to the actual question, the Chief Minister is trying to divert attention from the topic by asserting that his party would take to legal recourse. There is no consistency in the election affidavit and the statements made by the BJD, BJP State vice-president Sameer Mohanty told a Press meet on Sunday.
Mohanty questioned whether the money deposited in the BJD’s bank account is amassed through percentage commissioning in the Works and Water Resources Departments and money received as funds from the chit fund companies that duped lakhs of gullible investors in the State.
