Odisha celebrating Kartik Purnima with great religious fervor

Bhubaneswar: Odisha today celebrating Kartik Purnima with great religious fervor . Odias across globe today celebrating Kartik Purnima by floating decorated boats made while recalling the state’s glorious maritime history.


Devotees offered Puja on the banks of the water bodies on the occasion of Boita Bandan to recall the voyage of Odia traders to distant lands and safety and prosperity of their kins. The banks of Mahanadi, Kathjodi and Kuakhai rivers and Bindu Sagar tank in the Twin City and sea beach in Puri were crowded with people of all ages who sailed miniature boats


It was witnessed that people of all age groups throng to nearby water bodies to float small boats in Twin Cities- Cuttack and Bhubaneswar performing the ritual of “Boita Bandana” festival.

MP Dr Prasanna Patsani, state culture and tourism minister Ashok Chandra Panda, Bhubaneswar (North) MLA Priyadarshi Mishra, Bhubaneswar (Central) MLA Bijaya Kumar Mohanty and Mayor Ananta Narayan Jena also took part in the Kartik Purnima celebration at Bindusagar in Bhubaneswar.


Large number of people in Millennium City thronged Mahanadi and Kathajodi rivers to celebrate Kartik Purnima. Kartik Purnima also marks the beginning of the Bali Jatra along the banks of Mahandi river in Cuttack.
