Odisha Cabinet granted university status to Gandhi Institute of Engineering and Technology (GIET) in Gunupur

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Cabinet granted university status to Gandhi Institute of Engineering and Technology (GIET) in Gunupur. The Cabinet, which met under chairmanship of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik gives nod to 5 proposals.

The State Cabinet on Friday approved a proposal to increase life insurance coverage of former MLAs from Rs 2 lakh to Rs 5 lakh and monthly health allowance from Rs 1,000 to Rs 2,000.

According to the decisions, the Gandhi Institute of Engineering and Technology (GIET), Gunpur in Rayagada district would be accorded university status.

Similarly, the minimum qualification for Forester posts was set Plus Three Science. Earlier, candidates having minimum qualification of Plus Two Arts and Plus Two Science were eligible to apply for the post.

The Cabinet approved a proposal for setting up an underground water project at Belpahar in Jharsuguda at a cost of Rs 200 crore in order to resolve the water scarcity problems in the two town towns.

A proposal to give relax to Primary Agriculture Credit Society (PACS) members from paying membership fees was approved.
