Odisha BJP urges AG to audit funds spent by BJD in Aama Gan Aama Bikash and Biju Juba Bahini schemes

Bhubaneswar: A delegation of BJP MLAs led by KV Singh Deo met the Accountant General here on Tuesday urging for a special audit of the funds spent mindlessly by the ruling BJD in Aama Gan Aama Bikash and Biju Juba Bahini schemes, keeping the impending elections in view.

The BJP team apprised that in the Aama Gan Aama Bikash, CM Naveen Patnaik has already sanctioned 37,331 projects worth Rs 919 crore directly. The projects are sanctioned by video conferencing ignoring the procedure for calling for a Gram Sabha in the Odisha Gram Panchayat Act 1964.

The BJP members alleged that the CM has taken over the rights and responsibilities of the Panchayti Raj Institutions and arrogated to himself the power of the people to decide on their own development. They told that it clearly violates the 73rd amendments of the Constitution.

They further alleged that the Works Department has cleverly created a loophole in the OPWD code where in works up to Rs 5 lakh can be given to anyone without calling for tenders to facilitate the game plan of the ruling party.

Similarly under the Biju Juba Bahini scheme, there is an annual outlay is Rs 150 crore for three years for organising various activities pertaining to youths. But, the BJP leaders alleged that it is a political move for mobilisation of youth cadre in support of the BJD.
