Odisha BJD demands resignation of Union Minister Jual Oram over false affidavit

Bhubaneswar: Ruling Biju Janata Dal of Odisha alleged demands resignation of Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram stating that his affidavit submitted to the Election Commission of India is completely false . BJD MPs Pinaki Misra and Pratap Deb demanded this at a Press conference here on Saturday evening.
“Oram expenditure sheet shows that he didn’t spend any own fund for the election campaign. But in affidavit, his expenditure sources include own fund of Rs 3, 59,000. It is a complete false affidavit,” alleged ruling party MPs Pinaki Misra and Pratap Deb at a Press conference here on Saturday evening.
They too demanded that the MP resign from the Ministerial post soon. “We would approach the Election Commission of India and the court soon seeking action against Oram,” they said.
Stating that the BJP has made low level attacks on Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, Misra claimed, “BJD account is very transparent and the BJP has brought false and malicious charges to tarnish the image of the Chief Minister and the party.”
He, however, stated that two typographical mistakes made in the Chief Minister’s election expenditure statement taking the amount received by him from the party to Rs 13 lakh instead of actual Rs 10 lakh and the mistakes are very common.
On the BJP’s question on the CM returning of Rs 6, 48, 320 to the party, Misra said there is an ECI norm that a candidate can return excess money and Patnaik has done that.
The Puri MP said he would bring charges relating to polls spending against other MPs of the BJP in coming days. “We are pained by the false charges made by the BJP. We are constrained to bring to fore more charges against the BJP and its MPs,” said Misra.
Deb challenged the saffron party to explain how it spent Rs 872 crore for the 2014 campaign while its total collection stood at Rs 588 crore as per records.
