Odisha: Berhampur Children Federation members meet new Municipal Commissioner

Berhampur : Child leaders today meet the new Municipal Commissioner Sri. Nikhil Pawan Kalyan of Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC). Children greeted and get opportunity to talk to their new commissioner. They detailed about the journey from 2013, their activities in slums to improve the living condition and the issues they face like water, sanitation, housing, roads, street lights and other civic services. Child leaders also narrated the action taken by the children in slums to improve the situation and the challenges they face.
Shri. Kalyan assured children to more dialogue on their issues and challenges they face in slums and asked for cooperation of children as well as the citizens to develop the city.
Children have more expectations from the new commissioner and they hope their situation will improve in this period and he will certainly try to make Berhampur a ‘child friendly’ ‘smart city’. said Sruti Kumari, President of Berhampur Children Federation. More than five child leaders along with the volunteers of Youth for Social Development (YSD) Mr. Ratneswar Sahu, Mr. Chandan Kumar Sahu also meet the commissioner and greeted him.
The newly appointed Commissioner Mr. Kalyan, is the first Indian Administrative Service rank officer to be appointed as the commissioner since Berhampur declared as Municipal Corporation in 2008. He has been the sub-collector of Berhampur sub-division in the past with knowledge about Berhampur.
