Odisha-based NINL Starts Blast Furnace Capital Repair; Eyes Turn Around

New Delhi: The blast furnace capital repair process of the Odisha-based Neelachal Ispat Nigam Limited (NINL) has been started with the target to accomplish the work within 90 days. The blow down process of the blast furnace commenced on 26th November and subsequently the capital repair work will begin from 30th November.

This could be termed as the foundation stone for the turnaround of the Kalinga Nagar-based company as the blast furnace is expected to produce the desired hot metal at its rated capacity after the capital repair. Along with the production of Pig Iron, with the improved hot metal production, NINL plans to regain steel billet production after restarting the steel melting shop (SMS) in full capacity which will help the company fetch more profit.

“We have chalked out detailed plan for the turnaround of the company. The blast furnace capital repair along with the running of SMS in full capacity and operation of the captive mines at Koira are major milestones to achieve for the accomplishment of the company’s plans,” said Shri S.S. Mohanty, Vice-Chairman & MD.

The company expects to start mining operation after its captive mines at Koira get the final Stage-II Forest clearance in the next few months from Ministry of Environment & Forest (MoEF), Govt. of India.

NINL, promoted by MMTC Ltd., IPICOL & OMC, has set up an 1.1 million ton integrated Iron and Steel plant at Kalinga Nagar, Odisha. Presently the products are Steel Billets, Pig Iron and LAM Coke along with Nut Coke, Coke Breeze, Crude Tar, Ammonium Sulphate, Granulated Slag, etc.
