Odisha Administration outlines roadmap for development of Swabhiman Anchala in Malkangiri

Report by Kishor Dash, Bhubaneswar: Their wait for development is over. The Gurupriya bridge has opened up a window of opportunities for people of ‘Swabhimaan Anchala’, who hitherto belonged to the cut-off area of Malkangiri district.

While the `100-cr project announced by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik will put development of the area on the fast track, locals are now hopeful of getting employment and benefitting from government schemes, something that they had wished for ever since the project was conceptualised three decades back.
The district administration is ready with a roadmap for development projects to be undertaken under the project. Collector Manish Agarwal said two road projects, one from Muchiput to Jamuguda and the other from Panasput to Jodamba, will be taken up under the package to connect Jodamba and Panasput. Fishes worth `5 crore will be released into the Chitrakonda reservoir to promote pisciculture and 2,000 fishermen families will benefit from this. Six health centres will come up in six panchayats and a 33/11 KV sub-station would be set up at Badapada. Four piped water supply projects will come up at Badapada and Papermetla and 100 tubewells would be set up in the area, Agarwal added.

On Friday, government officials of all the department reached the villages on the other side of the bridge and interacted with villagers about their problems and requirements. “Our dream has finally come true. Our children can finally move out to study or work in other parts of the State,” said Krushna Khinchai, a youth of Badpada village.
The special project also includes construction of a bridge at Manyamkonda to facilitate the biennial celebration of Badayatra festival by the tribal people. High level bridges would also be set up at Potteru, Pangam, Kangrukonda, MV-90, Undrukonda and MV-37 under the `100 crore special package, the Collector added.
