Bhubaneswar: With the mercury level rising in the wake of the severe canopy loss to the city’s green cover, the “Jal Seva Sibir’’ by stakeholders under the leadership of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) are coming up in good numbers. While 53 centres opened across the city today, within two days it would cross 100.
Women self help groups, social service organisations, traders association, transporters’ body, senior citizens’ associations and differentially-abled people and their organisations are showing more interest to open “Jal Seva Sibir’’ for which BMC will provide drinking water on daily basis through its tankers.
While there is a target to open 200 “Jal Seva Sibir’’ the civic body has decided to provide a financial assistance of Rs 5,000 to the devastated kiosks, which were damaged during the severe cyclonic storm Fani on May 3.
Aahar from tomorrow
The citywide Aahar centres at 11 places will provide subsidised hot cooked meals after a short break as the centres were severely damaged by the severe cyclonic storm. The central kitchen at Bamphakuda near Nakhara also got damaged during the calamity. In an average the 11 Aahar centres provide around 8,000 meals during daytime. However, the night provision of Aahar at three centres would not be possible now, at this stage after the cyclone.
Multi-Agency Control Room
Meanwhile, the multi-agency control room at BMC has received 1521 complaints today till 8.30 pm (cumulative). Major complaints included tree cutting and street lights The civic body with its initiative to distribute food packets to manual labour touched 3,300 today (cumulative) as on the starting day on May 11 it was 300 and after that 1,000 packets daily for three consecutive days.
