Odias in Maharashtra’s Thane city celebrated Utkal Dibasa

Thane: Odias in Maharashtra’s Thane city celebrated Utkal Dibasa with great pomp, enthusiasm and glory organized by Thane Odia Association. The event was attended by hundreds of Odias from different walks of life residing in Thane city as well as different parts of Mumbai.

It’s the third year the association is celebrating Utkal Dibasa remembering the sacrifices of great sons of the soil for formation of Odisha.

The event started with Odia song followed by dance by troupes from western Odisha. There was also Odissi dance performance by various artists from Odisha sponsored by the Government of Odisha. The programme also had in-house dance performances by small kids.

“This is a platform and an occasion through which we want to showcase the rich cultural heritage of Odisha,” said P.K. Guha, chairman of TOA. “Our objective is to spread Odisha’s versatile cultural uniqueness across Maharashtra.”

Dr. Binay Pradhan, the President of Thane Odia Association further emphasized, “We wish to promote the Odia language amongst our Odia brethren who are living away from their motherland and while doing so, we are trying to promote harmony and brotherhood in the Odia community as well.”

Attendees in the function said Odisha has many dance forms and other theatrical performances. However, the state hasn’t been able to showcase these rich cultural art forms outside Odisha.

Mr Guha said “we believe in spreading and showcasing such culture of Odisha which isn’t discussed by people from other states.”

Padma Shri Rabi Narayan Bastia, local MLA Pratap Sarnaik, odia artist Prakruti Mishra, Bollywood actor Pitobash attended the function.

The association also felicitated distinguished Odia personalities such as Gagarin Mishra, Dr. Pradyot Kumar Rath, Master Jineet Rath, Mrs. Sanjukta Rout, Mrs. Mamata Maharana, Kamla Sathpathy, Santosh Padhi, Siddharth Rath.

The function was managed by all leading ladies of Thane Odia Association.

Apart from celebrating Utkala Dibasa, Thane Odia Association also celebrate all traditional Odia festivals such as Raja, Boita Bandana, Saraswati Puja, Ganesh Puja and Chadakhai.

The association has also involved itself with various charitable works in social and educational field. It has been giving scholarships to bright students.
