Sambalpur: The Orissa Civil Liberty Forum (OCLF) opened its Sambalpur chapter and organised an FIR camp here yesterday. The DIG of police (north-western range) Mr YB Khurania, district collector Mr Pradipta Kumar Patnaik and senior members of the forum from different parts of the state were present at the meeting. Inaugurating the camp collector Mr Patnaik said that every effort will be taken to ensure that citizens get justice in police stations. �The police should not decide whether to file an FIR or not,� he said. The DIG of north-western range Mr Khurania narrated the problems police face since the strength of the police force has remained more or less the same while population and crime rates have risen manifold. �The number of police personnel and allied facilities has not risen in proportion even then the police are conscious of the rights of the people and its own duties,� he said. Assuring the people of the cooperation of the police he suggested that those who face problems in local police stations could approach him or the superintendent of the districts to overcome the problems. The DIG handed over a postal kit box in the circle and ladies jails at Sambalpur to the welfare officers of the jails to enable the inmates to send letters to their relatives. The collector and DIG also answered queries of the people on legal matters particularly on filing FIRs. The state office bearers of OCLF Mr Merusagar Samantray, Mrs Simantini Jena, Mr Subhendu Parida, spoke on the objectives of the forum and the service it was going to render to the people. Mr Nimai Charan Sahu, Mr SK Bisi and Mr Mahabir Mishra were also present on the occasion.
