OCL India reiterates commitment towards society, receives CSR AWARD for services to community

Bhubaneswar: Reiterating its commitment as a responsible corporate citizen, OCL India Ltd.the flagship company of Dalmia Cement (Bharat) Ltd., has added another feather to its cap by receiving the CSR Community Initiatives Award for Best CSR practices by a Corporate. The jubilant CSR team led by Dr.NiladriParhi, Head CSR, OCL India Ltd. and Mr. Vishal Bhardwaj, Head – Dalmia Bharat Foundation, was awarded by Sri Shashi BhusanBehera, Hon’ble Minister, Finance & Excise, Govt. of Odisha. The event which was organized by Odisha CSR Forum witnessed the presence of Dr. Sudhanshu Sarangi, Addl DG of Police, Smt. Anjana Panda, Joint Secretery, Govt of Odisha and Dr. S. Pasupalak, Vice Chancellor, Odisha Agriculture University.

Expressing his commitment towards CSR and local communities, Mr. Sunil Gupta, Executive Director – Manufacturing (East), DCBL, said, “OCL India has remained committed over the years for developing Rajgangpur and many other regions in Odisha. As a company for the past 70 years OCL India continues to impart responsible business practices through community development. Since last seven decades and now as a Dalmia Bharat Group company, OCL India has not only championed in shaping the infrastructural and GDP growth of Odisha since 1950, it has also built the foundation for the growth of community in and around the manufacturing units.”

OCL India has remained committed over the years for developing Rajgangpur and many other regions in Odisha. It has created mammoth direct and indirect job opportunities in the past for the local communities. The company enhances the employability of local youth of Rajgangpur and also makes the women from the region economically independent, by augmenting their skills through various training programmes, conducted in association with Dalmia Industrial Training Institute and Dalmia Bharat Foundations’ skill development centre in Rourkela. At Rajgangpur, OCL India provided a specialist paediatrician to the Mother and Child Care Center and refurbished the weekly market place in coordination with the local administration. It added covered sitting places for vendors in order to enable them sell their products all-round the year.

OCL India has also taken up a mission to render Sundargarh a blind free district. In partnership with LVPEI in 3 years OCL Eye Centre has served 50, 481 outpatients out of which 16, 543 (33%) have been served free of cost. 23, 861 (47%) female patients have been treated in these 3 years. OCL Eye Centre has performed total 3574 surgeries, out of which more than 2500 have been free of cost. In 2016 the company opened OCL Vision Centre at its mines in Lanjiberna and it has been equally beneficial to the community.

Speaking about the CSR initiatives in the mining district, Mr. Saroj Kumar Raut, Head – Mines, OCL India Ltd. said, “OCL has always been supporting the local community at large and we remain committed to their larger benefit. As a Company we have always cared for the communities we live and do business in. OCL India has provided the mines and the peripheral area with numerous services and infrastructure to uplift standards of living by creation of livelihood opportunities. We will continue the momentum for our community.”

OCL CSR team has established 11 Remedial Coaching centres to teach economically weaker students who cannot afford private tuition. An average of about 460 students are taught here every year. The livelihood training in trades like mushroom cultivation, pisciculture, beautician courses are also being undertaken and support through SHGs have made women of the local communities economically independent. The women of the locality are trained in tailoring, phenyl making and bag making enabling them to become entrepreneurs adding to their financial independence. Aligning with Government’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, OCL India has constructed toilets for individual households to make villages Open Defecation Free and ensure a healthy and hygienic lifestyle for everyone in villages like Siartoli, Rangiadhipa and Pahadtoli (Bailakona). Already 80 toilets have been constructed and more are

 

underway. The company through its skill development centers has been training local youth on various trades including electrical, fitness, beauty, wellness and retail consumer management to make them employable.
