Obstruction in construction of Medical College will cause delay in non-starting of session 2019-20

Talcher: The work at the Mahanadi Institute of Medical Science and Research(MIMSR), an ambitious project of Mahanadi Coalfields Limited at Talcher has been brought to a grinding halt for almost a month due to local vested interests. The delay will certainly lead to non-starting of the 100 seated Medical College in the session 2019-20.

Mahanadi Coalfields Limited, responding to the wishes of the people of Angul District and its nearby districts for a Medical College at Talcher, had allocated Rs 492 crores for the project and has already spent Rs 327 crores in the construction of the state of art Medical College which would be a pride of the state.

However certain local forces, for petty gains continue to resort to forceful stoppage of work even after letters were issued by district authorities for resumption of work. The contracting agency, NBCC, a government of India Enterprise, also requested the trouble makers to let the work be resumed since most of the labour force was without work for almost a month without any heed.

A project of this magnitude which was on its conclusion and which would have benefitted the people of nearly 4-5 districts who are currently dependent on Cuttack/ Bhubaneswar for state of the art medical facility has to face the greed of a few mis-guided people.

It is appealed to refrain from forceful stoppage of work so that the state of the art Medical College opens in scheduled time otherwise it may adversely affect the image of Odisha as well as dissuade other Corporate houses from undertaking such noble causes.
