National Workshop on Mid Day Meal held in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: National Workshop on Mid Day Meal was held in Bhubaneswar in Hotel “The New Marrion”. Deptt. of School & Mass Education organised the Workshop for the year 2017. It was attended by Directors & Delegates of 18 States namely Andaman & Nicobar, Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Telengana, Tripura, Sikkim, Lakshadweep, Odisha, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal working in the field of nutrition and mid-day meal implementation.
Director (Mid-Day Meal), govt. of India, Ministry of HRD, Mr. Vijaya Bhaskar Guralla with six associates also participated in the workshop.
The Workshop was inaugurated by Hon’ble Minister, School & Mass Education Sri Badri Narayan Patra by lighting the lamp. In his inaugural speech Hon’ble Minister stressed the need for enhancing the unit cost of MDM, Cook­ cum-Helpers honorarium, MME allotment and extending the benefits of MDM to the poor children studying in class IX & X in Govt. school and the deserving students studying in private schools also like Saraswati Shishu Mandira, Vivekananda School etc.
Principal Secretary, School & Mass Education Deptt., Sri P. K. Mohapatra, IAS delivered his welcome address to the gathering and highlighted the innovative steps taken by Odisha to strengthen the MDM system which includes SMS based Monitoring, MDM Contingency plan, Multi Tap Multi Cap System, Mini Hand Wash Stations, Odisha MDM Rules-2016, Disbursement of Food Security Allowance, Rice Fortification and Impact Study by All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). He also urged the participants to deliberate on the critical issues of food poisoning, Kitchen Shed, Dinning space, insufficient unit cost of MDM and suggest measures to overcome them.
Mr. Gangadhar Sahoo, OAS, State Nodal Officer (MDM)-cum-Additional Secretary, School & Mass Education Deptt. extended vote of thanks to all the esteemed delegates and requested them to go for first hand learning in the central kitchen and nearby schools to know about implementation of MDM in Odisha. The Workshop will continue for 2 days.
