Bhubaneswar: The 36th Monks Caves and Kings, heritage walk at the twin hills of Udayagiri and Khandagiri for the famous Jain heritage site remained a major attraction for visitors not only from outside, but also from Odisha and the city as well. Dotted with natural and man-made caves, rare inscriptions and cave art, perhaps by the pre-historic men, this site always remains on the tourism radar, for those, who want to discover the City of Temples in other perspectives.
Narrating his experience Sher Ali, who was part of the walk, said “though originally I belong to another district I always remain a fan of the city as it has an amalgamation of several religious faiths and it has truly a world heritage site. We all and especially children must come in great numbers and explore the treasure with their elders.’’
Zahid Akhtar said “I am here on several occasions to boost the spirits of the organisers and also promote the heritage walk concept as it has opened new vistas in tourism promotion and showcasing our cultural fabric. Today noted archaeologist Jitu Mishra also explained the things in a different and innovative way and I was really happy to have him as the guide of the tour.’’
Satyajit Nayak, another visitor from the city said “ I have experienced Jitu Mishra’s guiding for the first time as in the past I had been to this heritage walk on several occasions. I really liked the way he described the stories associated with the monument across the ages.’’
The guide, Jitu Mishra, an archaeologist and researcher of the heritage sites and monuments across the nation and an exponent of cultural and anthropological studies besides the historical analytics, in fact, sequenced his tale from the pre-historic era till the modern times passing through the rulers, who virtually shaped the Kalingan empire through their sacrifices.
