MCL management constitutes SITs to pick holes at unit-level to ensure safety, productivity

Sambalpur: To ensure safety and productivity, Special Inspection Teams are conducting surprise inspections in various units of Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) spread over in Angul, Jharsuguda and Sundergarh districts of Odisha.

Following a tip off, two Special Inspection Teams were constituted at MCL headquarters to inspect and submit report on the situation at the operational units of the company.

During its first day of inspection, SITs found high rate of absenteeism and manipulation in booking of Over Time duty.

The team that inspected Excavation Workshop in Hingula Area, where total 80 employees were on roll, only eight employees were found physically present on duty against an attendance of 52 marked on the register. Fourteen female employees, whose attendance was marked on the register didn’t turn up during the day.

The security personnel were also found absent at many key locations, where over time bookings by workers were being done without justification.

The company management is taking proactive initiatives to check the operational violations and laxities at unit levels, which is impacting the productivity and also increases operational risks.

While steps are afoot for evacuation of unauthorised occupations of company quarters in the coalfields, Company is going digital – AADHAR-based Biometric Attendance System – for attendance, which is already in place at MCL’s headquarters and Bhubaneswar office.
