Massive eviction drive removes 31 strictures from Gate No. 1 of Kalinga Stadium

Bhubaneswar: In a massive eviction drive today near Gate No. 1 of Kalinga Stadium, along the Behera Sahi Road, 31 illegal structures were demolished / removed, which were occupying the space besides the stadium boundary wall, creating a cluttered look.
The eviction was carried out to provide a clean look to the entire Kalinga Stadium Complex, which, currently has evolved as the cradle of all sporting events i.e. athletics, hockey, swimming, tennis and adventure sports to name a few, in the State. While the stadium successfully hosted the Asian Athletics Championship last year, this year the World Cup Hockey would start from November 28th and end on December 16.
Done by the Central Enforcement Monitoring Committee (CEMC) under the supervision of Additional Commissioner Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA ), the Joint eviction team of BDA, Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC), General Administration Department, Commissionrate Police removed/demolished unauthorised encroachments from `Gauda Basti’ near Behera Sahi, Nayapalli.
During the eviction drive 21 asbestos/tin covered houses, five tin covered shops, three thatched houses and two thatched cow sheds were removed/demolished successfully. Now lifting of the debris is continuing by the Construction and Demolition Waste (C&D) team at the site.
The requisition for the eviction was made by Deputy Commissioner, South-West-Zone of BMC, yesterday. During the eviction four excavators (three from BMC and one from BDA) along with a cow catcher van from BMC were engaged for the above eviction drive.
Additional Commissioner-cum-Member Enforcement, BDA, Bhabani Shankar Chayani said “the eviction drive will continue around the stadium to make a better ambiance for the coming World Cup Hockey.’’
BMC Deputy Commissioners Subhransu Mishra, Binay Kumar Dash, Lalatendu Sahoo and Pramod Kumar Prusti were present. General manager (operations) Bhubaneswar Smart City Limited Bijay Kumar Swain was also present along with Enforcement Officer-II from BDA Pramod Kumar Patro and Liaison Officer Subhransu Sekhar Mohanty.
Among the top police officials DCP Anup Sahoo, additional DCP RK Paikray, ACP RK Satpathy, KC Mund and A Kanungo (Traffic), IIC, Nayapalli Police Station Umakanta Pradhan, IIC Mahila Thana Eman Nayak, IIC Infocity PS Bijayeeni Singh and Inspector from Capital PS Sandhyarani Singh were present. Ten platoon of gents APR force and lady police force were present at site to maintain law and order during the demolition drive. Enforcement squads 1,2,3,4, Smart City SJS squads of BDA and all BMC squads were present.
