Bhopal : Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan has instructed that all the main roads and district roads in the state should be in better condition for traffic. Necessary repairing works should be carried out for this. Chief Minister Shri Chouhan gave this directive in a review meeting of Public Works Department here today. It was informed in the meeting that 3,799 km roads and 85 bridges were constructed by the Public Works Department in last one year and 3,700 km of roads were reconstructed. About Rs 2,766 crore were spent on the work. Public Works Department Minister Shri Rampal Singh was also present there.
In the meeting, Chief Minister Shri Chouhan said that plan should be made to generate resources for roads’ construction. District mining fund should be used for road construction in tribal dominated districts. Fund available with Rural Development Department should be used for construction of short roads in rural area. Required fund will be allotted for repairing of roads.
It was informed in the meeting that major district roads of 900 km have been constructed by spending Rs 1440 crore under CRF and other schemes. Similarly, 1365 km roads have been constructed by the cost of Rs 2061 crore in the fourth phase of ADB. Maintenance of 23395 km roads is being carried out by the department in rural areas. Damaged parts of 2611 km of newly declared national highways are being constructed.
Chief Secretary Shri BP Singh, Additional Chief Secretary, Finance, Shri AP Shrivastava, Principal Secretary, Public Works Department, Shri Pramod Agrawal, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Shri Ashok Varnawal, Managing Director of State Road Development Authority, Shri Manish Rastogi, and engineer-in-chief, PWD, Shri Akhilesh Agrawal were present in the meeting.
