Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th birth anniversary observed by Nandanik at Koraput

Koraput: Nandanik, a theatre group based in Koraput observed the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi at Koraput by organising a seminar titled, Gandhivaad: Contemporary Reflections. The seminar was held on 23rd February 2019 at Shri Gurukul School, Koraput.

The seminar was inaugurated by lighting of lamp by Shri Narayan Panda, eminent author-critic-academician who also delivered the opening note. The seminar panel comprised Dr Pradosh Kumar Rath, Assistant Professor, Central University of Orissa was the chief speaker and Dr Kishore Behera, Lecturer, Nandapur College was the rapporteur. Dr Jhansi Singh, Lecturer , Semiliguda College presided over the session. The speakers dwelled on different facets of Mahatma Gandhi viz. his concepts of Ahimsa and Swarajya. His ideas of nationalism and their relevance in present times was discussed. The seminar was followed by an interactive session.

The concluding note was given by Shri Sourav Gupta, creative director of Nandanik. The vote of thanks was delivered by Saumendra Kumar Swain.

Monideepa Gupta and Saumendra Kumar Swain, both senior member of Nandanik were joint coordinators of the programme. At the start of the programme candles were lighted in memory of the martyrs, Indian soldiers who were killed in the recent Pulwama attack. The programme was well attended by students, eminent people of Koraput and artists of Nandanik.
