LUX Industries goes Green with Solar Unit installation at Dankuni Plant

Hyderabad: Lux Industries Limited (BSE: 539542 | NSE: LUXIND) known for its innovative and customer-demand driven product offerings, creating new benchmarks for quality and comfort over the years is now going green in a bid to replenish the environment and reiterate their commitment towards nature and mother earth. The company recently installed a 1 Megawatt solar unit in their plant at Dankuni which is spanned over 6 lakh sq. ft. and is one of the largest facility in the hosiery industry. The Dankuni plant was inaugurated in June 2016. With this solar installation Lux became one of the rarest private sector companies who have been able to setup a solar unit in one of their factories. The company shelled out INR 5 Crore approximately for the project.

Speaking about the installation, Mr. Udit Todi, Senior Vice President Lux industries said, “We believe it is our time to give back to the environment. We have been heavily dependent on our planet’s resources and the hour has come that we put to use other sources of energy, and leave some valuable resources for our future generations. The Solar Unit, installed in our plant at Dankuni will help cut down on electricity costs by 40 to 50 percent and would generate approximately 13 lakh kWh of energy per annum and will be one of the largest solar power unit in the state of West Bengal in private space. The power generated from this solar unit shall bring substantial energy savings.”

Elaborating on the vision of Lux Industries going green, Mr. Saket Todi, Senior Vice President Lux Industries, said, “We at Lux Industries have taken a rational step forward towards a sustainable future. The solar unit at our Dankuni plant is the first step towards realising that goal. As a responsible corporate, Lux Industries believes in taking cognizance of the fact that mankind needs alternative energy to prevent the depletion of our natural resources. It is time we give due importance towards nature besides focusing on business growth strategies.”

In sync with the current union government’s vision to achieve 100 GW (gigawatt) of solar power by 2022, Lux Industries now becomes one of the prime movers as a private player from West Bengal to come forward and take part in promoting green renewable energy. This initiative by Lux Industries is thus another benchmark in the industry.

Excluding the Dankuni plant, Lux has also got its factories in Tirupur, Kolkata, Roorkee, Delhi and Ludhiana. Mr. Udit Todi also said that they have plans of setting up the solar units in these other units too but that will be done in various phases.
