Life Skill Education in Tribal residential school to begin in keonjhar

Report by Malaya Mohapatra; Keonjhar: “The Life Skill Education is important for the students of residential schools under ST & SC Development Department which safeguards them for their Safety, Security, Health and wellbeing“ said Mr.AsishThakrey, Collector, Keonjhar during the District level Planning and convergence meeting at Darbar hall of Keonjhar.

The meeting was a joint initiative of the ST & SC Development Department, United Nations Population Fund and Azim premji Philanthropic Initiatives to bring convergence among the District Health and Welfare department.

The topics like regular health screening, Observation of Adolescent Health Days, Nutrition, Safety Security of students and Iron supplementation initiatives were discussed in the meeting in presence of CDMO Dr.Swopnaswar Gadanayak.

The State Programme Manager, Life Skills Education Plus Programme Mr. Sushanta Panda facilitated the sessions for establishing convergence at the district level for providing timely health services and maintaining safety and security in residential schools. The District Welfare Officer Mr. Pradumna Dash emphasised Zero tolerance policy of the state government for sexual abuses in schools. The District NHM team presented the RBSK micro plan and discussed the guideline for health screening, counselling and referrals. The Headmasters of all 88 tribal residential schools, along with WEOs and ADWOs in the district participated. The BEOs, RBSK medical officers and BPMs also attended the meeting and presented their action plan for strengthening health and nutrition of students in residential schools. Dr. Chayanika Mishra, State Programme Officer Life Skills Education presented the annual action and discussed for health screening, BMI and Haemoglobin measurement in regular intervals.

Among others Sub Collector-Cum-PA-ITDA, Champua, Parul Pattawari, attended the programme and emphasised on the need for ensuring safety of students in PHS. The District project officer life skills education Mr. Rakesh Routray and Mr. Muskan Ray coordinated for organization of the meeting.
