Lackadaisical attitude of authorities: Tribal minor school girl electrocuted to death

Report by Badal Tah; Rayagada: A tribal girl named Nandini Kadraka, daughter of Unasu Kadraka, studying in Class-VII in Kastuba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya(KGVB), Kumudabali, Muniguda. Nandini, after having dinner, was returning to hostel while she came touch with electric wire hanging on the wall. Her hostel inmates rescued her and the hostel authorities got her admitted in Community Health Centre, Muniguda where she was declared dead by the doctor. Nandini’s father said that he was waiting for the post mortem report after which he would issue necessary steps against the erring authorities in the school.

Heavily funded by the GOI, the school, which is established during the fag end year 2008, is around 4 kms from the block headquarters and 64 kms from the district headquarters. It come under under the education deptt., Govt of Odisha. As a residential upper primary school It has 130 inmates. Recently a tender issued on 28-8-2018 by the Headmistress of the school sought for electrical equipments amounting lakhs of rupees alongwith other equipments. In spite of this, the lackadaisical attitude of the school authorities in putting the electrical gadgets in place is really a point of concern, said Sri Rabindra Patakhandal, an RTI activist. It is also learnt that the hostel superintendent does not stay in the hostel campus. Though the school is established since more than a decade, the monitoring system is extremely weak. The District Education Officer has visited the spot and inquiring into the incident and assured to to take the guilty to task.
